Rotherham Schools Cup Finals Deliver Thrilling Football

Saturday saw an action-packed day of football at Wickersley School and Sports College, as teams battled it out in the prestigious Rotherham Schools Cup Finals
With close matches, last-minute winners, and top-tier talent on display, the competition showcased the best of school football in Rotherham.
In near-perfect conditions, players gave their all for their respective schools. This year’s tournament featured five thrilling fixtures, 13 goals, and a dramatic last-minute winner. Notably, Clifton made their long-awaited return to the Year 7 final, competing for the first time since 1995.

Year 7 Final
In a nail-biting contest, Brinsworth Academy edged out Clifton 3-2, clinching victory with a last-minute free kick. Both teams created plenty of chances, making for an exciting debut in the RSFA Finals. A special mention goes to Clifton, whose players proudly represented their school on Finals Day for the first time in 30 years.
Year 8 Final
Wales High School secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory in the tightest game of the morning. With limited chances on either side, the match was a defensive masterclass. Charlie Oliver’s decisive goal ensured Wales lifted the trophy.
Year 9 Final
Wales celebrated another triumph, winning 2-0, with goals from Mason Cutts and Coby Speight.
Year 10 Final
Wickersley continued their dominance at this level, defeating Swinton Academy 2-0. Goals from AJ Mason and Dan Vernon sealed their fourth consecutive title with this year's group.
Sixth Form Final
Thomas Rotherham College (TRC) once again emerged victorious, winning 2-1 in an entertaining contest. Goals from George Jenkinson and Denniz Guidede secured the trophy in a game that could have gone either way.
