Maltby schools champion uniform exchange initiative

Four primary schools in Maltby have introduced an important uniform exchange scheme to help benefit the environment and support their families through the cost-of-living crisis.

Maltby Manor Academy, Maltby Redwood Academy, Ravenfield Primary Academy and Maltby Lilly Hall Academy, which are part of Maltby Learning Trust, are all involved in the initiative which enables the school community to gift or exchange uniform that is outworn or no longer needed.

Under the banner ‘Exchange, Recycle and Save’ the scheme has a real focus on recycling and spreading the important message to parents, carers and children of sustainability to improve the environment but also helps save on costs at a time when many families are under financial pressure.

Run by academy staff, families at each school can easily donate their unwanted uniform or request certain uniform if they need any item.

David Horrigan, Executive Director of Primary Education at Maltby Learning Trust, said: “We’re really pleased to have introduced a uniform exchange scheme across our four primary academies. Uniforms are an important part of life at our schools, but we recognise children can grow quickly and many items can be reworn and reused, not everything needs to be brand new.

“The feedback we have received from our parents has been really encouraging, not only from a recycling and environmental perspective but also from a reducing cost point of view at what is currently a difficult time for lots of families across the country.

“It’s been lovely to see our school communities really support the initiative and we hope it will expand and grow over time as more families make use of it.”
